Campaign Story

"It could be a really rough few months for our fellow restauranteurs and if we don't do something soon, we could lose some of the businesses on the edge," said Luca Paris, owner of Luca's Mediterranean Café. "We can’t wait for someone else to help us. Eat, drink and build community! Let's do this as a community—quickly and safely."

In response to Luca's call, The Local Crowd Monadnock, Culinary Journeys, and Food Connects will partner to launch the Monadnock Restaurant Project, a homegrown stimulus effort.

We will purchase gift cards from locally owned restaurants and strategically disperse them to community members who will spend these cards quickly, providing an immediate shot in the arm to Keene's local economy this winter. Learn more about our project.

Our goal is to inspire an infusion of energy and funds into the restaurant community -- unlike anything ever seen.

Culinary Journeys will fund Phase 1 of our project. We invite you to fund future rounds.

Eat, Drink & Build Community
According to the Monadnock Indie Impact Study, locally owned retailers return 62.4% of their revenue to the local economy, while national chain retailers return just 13.6% of revenue—meaning that locally owned businesses return over 4x more money to the local economy compared to chain retailers. We hope this immediate stimulus can be replicated in other parts of the region.

Please join us in building our own homegrown stimulus -- contribute to our effort today!

Week One Update - 61% Raised

Thank you again for supporting our Monadnock Restaurant Project crowdfunding campaign.
We’re excited to share that we’ve reached 61% of our goal after one week!
For the first phase of our project, we gave C&S Wholesale Grocers, Nanotech and Savings Bank of Walpole gift cards to share with their staff. They’re now spending those gift cards above & beyond what the card is worth. We can’t wait to hear about the impacts from our participating restaurants and food businesses.
Here are two ways to enter for a chance to win gift cards from us:
WKBK and The Keene Sentinel are giving away Monadnock Restaurant Project gift cards throughout February. Enter today at wkbkradio.com/buylocal and sentinelsource.com/tasty_trivia.
    In case you missed it:
WMUR gave us a wonderful shout-out last week. You can view the segment here.
Please help us spread the word:
We’d love for you to share this post on social media to help us spread the word.
We support the Monadnock Restaurant Project because we want to see our vibrant and diverse restaurant scene flourish. The mix of COVID-19 and the slow winter months is hard for our local restaurants. This project is a call to action to stimulate the local restaurant economy and a way to pay-it-forward in our community. Support this project today! https://tlcmonadnock.com/stimulus
    #monadnockrestaurantproject #localstimulus #payitfoward
Again, thank you for supporting our homegrown stimulus project – eat, drink & build community!

Mid-Campaign Update: So Close to $20K

Thanks to you, we’re just shy of $20,000 raised for the Monadnock Restaurant Project!

To help spread the word to more people, we recently launched the Snacktime Selfie Contest. We hope you’ll join in on the fun:

Snap a photo of your break, lunch, dinner, or anything in between that you purchased from a local restaurant, upload it to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter with the #MonadnockRestaurantProject AND #SnacktimeSelfie hashtags. FIVE lucky winners will receive a $100 gift card to the restaurant of their choice! Entries are due by 2/28 at 11:59 pm. Eat local today and you could win big in March! See all the details.

Also, don’t forget about other ways to win a gift card with us:
While called a “gift,” we want these cards to serve as a call to action. We urge community members to spend at least twice the amount of what their gift card is worth, doubling the project’s impact by infusing more funds into these cash-strapped businesses. The more we spend locally, the more dollars we reinvest in our local economy.

Thank you again for joining this movement!

Latest Goal Surpasses: Over 75% of our goal raised

Last week, we had a fantastic flurry of support thanks to a front-page article published in the Monadnock Shopper News. Thanks to all of you, we’re now 77% of our goal.

This next push will be challenging, so we’re looking for someone to present a matching challenge to our community (like business “A” will match all contributions, dollar for dollar, for the next 24 hours). If you have any ideas for businesses or individuals willing and able to support a matching challenge, please let us know.

Our next mini-goal: Reaching 90% raised by March 5. Please help us meet our latest goal by talking up our campaign with your friends and family.

Again, THANK YOU for your support!

    From our Community Heroes:

We Did IT! Thank you for your support!

We have wonderful news to share! We successfully completed our crowdfunding campaign for the Monadnock Restaurant Project. We raised $30,121 from 132 donors. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
While our campaign ended, our work continues:
    • All 600 gift cards for Phase 2 of our work were delivered to our business partners: American House, Cheshire Medical Center, Home Healthcare, Hospice & Community Services, Monadnock Shopper News, and The Peak. Now our partners are working hard to get these gift cards in the hands of staff and community members.
    • We’re collecting the impacts of our work by reaching out to Phase 1 restaurants and business partners. Do you have a story/quote to share the reflects the impact of this project on you and our community? Please let us know!
    • To encourage participation in A Taste of Keene Food Festival on June 5, we’re providing local restaurants with a stipend to ensure that they can cover the costs associated with providing delicious offerings during the event.

    Some special thank yous:
    • Matching Challenges – Thank you to 17ROX and Savings Bank of Walpole for providing matching challenges to inspire more people to give to our crowdfunding campaign.
