Hinsdale Beautification Committee Safe Streets Project
We’re looking to make our Main Street safer and more welcoming for all.
With your support, we'll add crosswalks, seasonal parklets and a radar post to make it easier and safer for all of us to get around downtown.
What's a Parklet?
A Parket is a sidewalk extension that makes it easier for pedestrians to cross a street. Some parklets provide places to sit -- like ours will. We plan to add Adirondack chairs to our seasonal parklets. (The photo above shows our temporary parklets from our Complete Street demo event).
In 2016, the Town of Hinsdale adopted a Complete Streets Policy -- a plan to consider all types of users (walkers, motorists, bicyclists, seniors, youth, etc.) when designing or maintaining a street. Now, the Hinsdale Beautification Committee is excited to make this policy come to life on Main Street -- to make shopping at businesses and the farmers market safer.
Benefits of Complete Streets
- Increased safety
- Reduced barriers for seniors and persons with disabilities
- Increase economic vitality
- Improved community health
