Campaign Story

Farm to School in a Neighborhood Near You!
Food Connects is an entrepreneurial non-profit on a mission to create healthy families, thriving farms, and connected communities. We partner with local schools throughout southeastern Vermont to develop and coach their Farm to School initiatives. And we want to bring our work to the Monadnock Region!

Our Farm to School program focuses on supporting the “three c‘s“ of farm to school—cafeterias, classrooms, and communities. Our experienced staff work with teachers, school nutrition professionals, and administrators in order to increase local food procurement, increase school meal participation, and improve teacher capacity to teach about food, farming, and nutrition. Food Connects helps school nutrition programs offer high-quality, nutritious meals with local ingredients, making school meals the best they can be and equipping teachers with professional development, ensuring engaging Farm to School activities are easily integrated into their curriculum.

Farm to School programming is an invaluable resource for students and teachers. Every dollar of this campaign will fund multiple district-wide initiatives in the Monadnock Region that will come at no cost to the schools.

We want to help Monadnock Region schools grow their Farm to School programming through collaborating with existing programs like the Cornucopia Project and Stonewall Farm and offering complementary services to strengthen Farm to School initiatives. Our work will help ensure more kids have access to local food, integrate more Farm to School curriculum, and supply more school staff with the support they need. When schools embrace Farm to School programming, students spend more time outdoors—gardening, engaging in hands-on lessons, and exploring the natural world.

We need you to support our Back to School with Food Connects campaign today to connect classrooms, cafeterias, and communities in the Monadnock Region and nourish young bodies and minds.

A Kick Off to a New School Year

Food Connects wants to start the new school year off right and we need your help. We are excited to announce the launch of our “Back to School with Food Connects” crowdfunding campaign to fund our Farm to School program.

We want to raise $8,000 to strengthen our current projects, like the Farm to School Conference and Harvest of the Month calendar, expand our offerings to include a Farm to School Institute, more professional development, and Farm to School grants, and grow our program to work with organizations and schools in the Monadnock Region!

To kick the start of the upcoming school year off right, we hosted an intimate gathering of school principals, adminstrative assistants, and food service directors in a celebration of Farm to School achievements over the past school year and look forward to new iniatives and projects for the 2021-20221 school year. We are excited to continue our robust conversations and increase professional development for all school employees.

Thank you to those who have already supported our campaign—we are nearly 40% of our way to our goal and have just added more rewards and a 1:1 match from New Chapter! Please be sure to share this campaign with your friends, neighbors, families, and coworkers and help grow our Farm to School program!
