A Village Roots Book – Patterns of Resilience: Northeast Permaculture in Action
Campaign Introduction:
Emerging Patterns of Resilience: Northeast Permaculture in Action
A Village Roots Book
Can we create a future that is abundant and resilient in the Northeast?
In Emerging Patterns of Resilience, Marty Castriotta will delineate patterns that can be used as trail maps to navigate an uncertain future. The book offers a clear case for why permaculture and why now, with the topic explained and explored in clear and compelling terms. Emerging Patterns of Resilience will explore some of the best examples of permaculture design, in the Northeast, with regard for the ecological and cultural patterns and practices that inform such design. This book aims to inspire the next generation, the climate generation, to co-create a future of abundance. At the same time, this book will be an important text for anyone in the Northeast who is ready to design and build systems with ecological and cultural regeneration in mind.

Campaign Story
We are living through change on a scale and timeline that current agricultural, social, and economic systems were not built to withstand. At this crucial point in human history, we have a single and momentary opportunity to design systems, large and small, to meet our times and foster vibrant communities.
Your support will help us create a blueprint to navigate this collaborative design process with a primary focus on accessible permaculture strategies as they relate to Northeast food, medicine and fiber production, natural building, regional planning, economics, decision making and social justice.
Marty Castriotta’s Emerging Patterns of Resilience will present a foundation of bioregional perspectives, ecological concepts, pre-colonial land use patterns, and regionally appropriate tools and practices. Case studies from throughout the Northeast will highlight patterns of resilience in action; from rural to urban, farm to backyard, and society to self.
This book is also a family collaboration. Marty of Village Roots Permaculture brings 20+ years of experience growing food, building homes, designing ecological and edible landscapes, and teaching students in the Monadnock region. Abigail Castriotta (Marty’s niece) is an up and coming artist, ecologist, and food security activist. Abbie’s artwork will breathe life into the writing while together, they will dig deeply into the elements needed to create sustaining and regenerative possibilities.
Make this dream project a reality.
Your investment today will enable research and development, numerous interviews and site visits, editing and layout, as well as providing a fair wage for the beautiful images that will help tell the story.
At Village Roots, we are devoted to building solutions, whether it’s increasing topsoil and biomass, building healthy, ecologic and affordable homes, or supporting the efforts of area artists and crafters. Together, we can create the reality that can sustain our future.

Half way point!
Well, we are just past the halfway mark on the campaign and we’ve reached 46% of our goal! We are so thankful for all the contributions thus far. Each donation, no matter how small, gets us closer to meeting our goal. Thank you all so much!

Thank You: We Reached Our Goal
Well, we did it! We reached our goal of $15,000 and we could not be more grateful for our supporters! Thank you to everyone who chipped in, no matter what the amount.
These donations have allowed us to start the work of interviewing Northeast permaculture practitioners, as well as make some site visits.
This winter, and next, will be when the bulk of the writing happens. I envision a year full of exploring inspiring permaculture projects and distilling the essence into narration.
Next summer, we will focus on illustrations that will highlight fundamental patterns of resilience. We look forward to this adventure and we look forward to sharing this work in co-creation.
